Californian Wines: Chardonnay White Wine, Zinfandel Rosé Wine and Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine

Introduction:

The world renowned Californian wine region in North America is one of the key drivers of the wine industry. The region has over 526,000 acres dedicated to vine growing and is the 4th biggest wine producing area in the world. Among the most famous are The Napa Valley; famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon and the  Sonoma Country where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel grapes are grown by experts with a wealth of experience handed down from generation to generation.

How old is the Californian Wine Industry?

The first accurate record of grape vine planting in California was by Franciscan missionary Father Junipero Serra in 1769. He initially grew a grape variety commonly known as the Mission grape which was used to make wines for the church.

Why is Californian wine so popular?

The Californian region grows vines that provide almost 90% of all wine consumed by American wine drinkers. The sheer size of the Golden State and the diverse array of soils and climates offered allow an enormous array of grape varietals to thrive. More than 100 wine grape varieties are grown within the region. Californian wine makers offer an amazing degree of diversity not only in the styles of wine, but also in the grapes themselves. The following famous varieties are just a tiny sample of those grown: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. In addition to these, there are others which are planted and offer a great degree of individual vine variety; namely Zinfandel, Malbec, Nebbiolo and Marsanne, allowing the region to offer an astounding variety of sweet, sparkling and even fortified wines. So, whatever your taste, red, white or rosé, California certainly has a wine to suit all wine lovers.

Californian WinesOur Californian Cabernet Sauvignon

Where exactly is the Cabernet Sauvignon wine from?

Our Californian Cabernet Sauvignon is made from grapes grown in the Napa valley, the most prestigious of the Golden States wine ranges. This mountainous region with its multi directional slopes and hillsides has a huge array of soil types such as volcanic soils, sandstone, white and red clay providing unique microclimates. Cooler temperatures on higher slopes provide perfect conditions for fresher, more tannic concentrated wines. The exterior parts of the region, commonly known as the bench land, are where you find more gravel based and alluvial soils creating perfect growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon vines. This is reflected in its fine and highly regarded quality and taste.
